I’m scared-not from the Americans or the Israelis but from my fellow Arabs. I’m no politics savvy & till this day, I find it difficult, painful, exasperating & baffling to fully understand it. The situation in the Middle East looks bleak & leaves no room for hope. I hate being cynical but there is not much to be proud of. Initially, I was one of those who deemed the Iranian president as a hero for standing up for the US but now, I realize how wrong I was. Truly but sadly, we, the Arabs & Muslims (no generalizing intended) have no love for each other. Who knows what might happen if Iran becomes the superpower of the Middle East? I have an inkling that we, specifically the Sunnis (though we are all Muslims) will be doomed. Why do we harbour so much animosity towards each other? We have proven to be an irresponsible lot & the only thing we seem to agree about is our hatred towards the West. It’s fine to shed each other’s blood & to rape our women. It’s wonderful to blow up each other in the name of Islam.
Let’s take Iraq for instance; the disgusting & ongoing insurgencies & sectarian violence. How shameful!!! I wish Saddam were back, at least he kept things in check. Or Palestine & Israel, as Drima has labeled it, “the deadly deadlock.” Or my country, where mayhem dominates. I wonder if El Bashir were ousted, would we turn into another Iraq?
It’s like we are children. We have to be disciplined. If left alone, we cause chaos. We are not eligible to take responsibility & accept accountability. We don’t seek solutions & the term “initiative” doesn’t exist in our dictionaries. We are waiting for the others to resolve our conflicts. God, we are such babies!!!
If it weren’t for the US, there would have been no peace between the North & South in Sudan. Even Human Rights associations were introduced in the UAE due to US pressure.
I’m not defending the US. I’m merely acknowledging. Sometimes I feel the West’s interference in our affairs is vital because we can’t be trusted even if they might have hidden agendas. Why have we stooped to such a low level? Why have we sunk in this abyss? Where do our religious teachings fit in the equation?
I’m really worried. Things are becoming intricate by the day & that light at the end of the tunnel is gradually fading. I wish I can help but where do I start? Which pieces do I pick & which problems can I solve? Do people still listen? How can I erase the blindness & encourage objectivity? I don’t know. Maybe the first thing we should do is to love ourselves, love each other & restore our confidence.Or am I naive?

Hey, it's up to you and ones like you to restore sanity to the Muslim and Arab world.
As Benjamin Theodor Herzl said: "If you will, it is no fairytale". Sounds better in Hebrew, really ("Im tertzu, ein zo agada"), but the meaning is the same and as powerful and as ever.
should be "as powerful as ever"
*sigh*
Hey, Raccoon, thankx for the comment & I love the mantra.Might as well create my own Hebrew dictionary;) Are the words prounounced like they are written?
Back to the topic at hand.Blogging & interacting with bloggers hailing from different backgrounds was & still is an eye-opening experience. However, as much as it is educational, it is a painful, shocking & frustrating process because one discovers facts & realities that conflict with what has been indoctrinated.Endeavouring to change one's perception & accepting new things is not easy esp with what has been drilled in one's head since a young age.
Raccoon, it is going to be a verrrrry slow & difficult process since we have to deal with many angles but hey, all hope is not lost & if I, as one person, got the opportunity to be reformed to an extent then I shouldn't despair.
Thankx:)
For what it's worth: learning _is_ painful. You seem to be confused on a yet higher level now, it's all fair and good.
And there's no turning back; from now on you can never see any story as black vs. white (no pun intended).
Bless you
HH, long time, no c.
How hv u been?Hope Denmark is treating you well:)
Yea,confusion is inevitable but doubt is good, isn't it?
& yes, nothing is absolute & by virtue of our imperfections, I should always give " gray "(as in neither black nor white) a chance.
I should always acknowledge the good & bad of an entity & refrain from generalizing.
The world is more complex than I imagined & endeavouring to be fair is not an easy task.May Allah be with us.
Bless you,bro:)
