I have written this piece a long time ago.I'm posting it today for Daana Lost in Translation in relation to her latest post Identity Crisis. Gurl, I feel you:)
Hey, they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Then why you skin-deep ppl act like you know everything.
Superiority is wat you claim (hmmm) let me explain:
Ever since I was young I was being singled out
Situation dramatized black is wats its all about
Hated my race cuz they had me locked out
Assumptions had me blinded to the natural facts
But I'm all grown now I can finally see
You and me are one we share the same reality
My scars inferno heated with hostility
Like Immortal Technique's revolution (ary) CD
"La Farq biyna Arabi wala Ajami illa bil taqwa"*
Put it in your pipe n smoke it feed on that dawah
Claiming Islam, hold up! But wat is the jadwa?*
If color-cism schism is ur latest fatwa
Neo KKK Muslims is wat you represent
Get this right, Haam n Sam* were brothers in the end
Whiteness in ur hearts, it ain't in your skin
My old man used to say when I used to question him
What's your axe to grind when you're putting us down?
Devil's advocates or like Zeus ruling Al Younaan*
Instead of pointing fingers attempt to understand
He di-ver-sified to beautify our land
Why y'all letting grass grow under your feet?
Help the Muslim cause (pause) by following its creed
Supercilious superficial that's how you proceed ?
Is that how you live? (Pause) by seeing us bleed !!
Yea I'm irate hate I try to mitigate
Unlike you I aim to strive to elevate
I was taught to respect n appreciate
My brothers n sisters for the love they generate
Like the Roman Empire nothing great lasts
You reap wat you sow karma wat you sow will blast
Your lack of understanding is how you'll collapse
Help yourselves grow before your perilous crash
* It's a hadith by the Prophet wherein he states(roughly translated) that there is no difference b/w an Arab or a foreigner save in their degree of faith.
* Jadwa is Arabic for use ie what is the use?
* Haam & Sam are claimed to be Noah's sons.Haam is said to have been dark-skinned while Sam was light-skinned.
* Al Younaan is Arabic for Greece.

this is good! lyricist lounge material, you can put a beat to this, you had one in mind? its aggressive kind of, that means u hv encountered hard times.
(i had to check 'supercilious' on google though, now it makes sense)
Sudanese people always delving into the identity issue. On top of defending themselves from racism....they are trying to find out who they are...whilst at the same time being racist to each other..that to me looks like a national issue not just one person.
Sem & Kam ? You left out Japhet, the original European. :-) I want in too.
Gurl, u bad when you sing
ur own original thing
let me add a little ridim
and play along with'em
ur a true gifted poet
but I guess ya'lready know it
hehe :-)
CS, it's been a good min.How has life been treating you? & once you start a blog, lemme know so I can announce you:)
Thankx, I actually did this piece to a beat.
Yes, it sounds aggressive cuz I was at my wits' end. When certain painful things happen in one's childhood,it leaves an everlasting mark & can't be easily forgotten.Bullying via racism, during my childhood & adolesence, has been an excruciating experience, which has had an impact on my self-esteem & perception for a very long time.
This poem comes as a liberation:)
"Sudanese people always delving into the identity issue. On top of defending themselves from racism....they are trying to find out who they are...whilst at the same time being racist to each other..that to me looks like a national issue not just one person."
Well-put.
HH,looool, that was tiiiiight & very uplifting, thank you:)
Looks like you write.Would love to read your stuff.
Yea,I focused on those 2 due their relevance.I thought Sam was the father of Whites & Yafith(in Arabic) was the father of the yellow Asians.
hehe, thanx, just improvising :-)
Now, according to the Bible, the sons of Noah (Nuh?) were:
Sem: originator of the semites (Jews and Arabs et al.)
Kam (Kham?): originator of Nubians/Africans [the ancient Egyptian name for - well, Egypt was Kam/Kemet meaning black, as in black land] and
Japhet/Yafith: originator of Europeans/Indians/Aryans/Persians et al.
Asians probably weren't "discovered" then. I guess the Qu'ran has a version of that story too. Ethnology old-school style.
Allah 3laiki...u said it all..enough said. if u are into poetry (u got rhyme baby) why don't u publish..Sudan is in dire need of new blood in literature and poetry. Much love and respect.
HH, from what I have read in the stories of the Prophets' series:
Yafith is the forefather of the Turks & Chinese.
Haam(Kem in Eng) is the father of the Nubains whereas his son is the father of the Indians(not sure which ones?American Indians or Asian Indians???
Daana, thankx,sweets,umm @ publishing-will think about it:)
Much love & respect to you too.
